Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz in Talks for New "Mummy" Film

Universal Pictures is reviving one of its most iconic adventure franchises. According to multiple sources cited by Deadline, Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are in discussions to return for a new installment of The Mummy. They are expected to reprise their roles from the studio's popular films of the 1990s and 2000s.

“Reps for Universal Pictures declined to comment, and plot details for the new film are under wraps.”

Creative Team and Production

The movie will be directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett from the filmmaking collective Radio Silence, based on a script by David Coggeshall, known for The Family Plan and The Deliverance. Longtime franchise producer Sean Daniel returns, producing alongside William Sherak, James Vanderbilt, and Paul Neinstein of Project X Entertainment.

This marks another collaboration between Radio Silence and Project X following their successful reboot of the Scream series. The two companies previously worked together on Ready or Not: Here I Come, a horror sequel for Searchlight Pictures.

Legacy of the Franchise

Fraser and Weisz originally starred together in The Mummy (1999) and its sequel The Mummy Returns (2001), both directed by Stephen Sommers. These films reimagined one of Universal’s earliest monster classics from the 20th century, achieving box office success of over $400 million globally.
