On Wednesday, dozens of Calgary police officers, transit peace officers, and social agency staff were deployed across the city’s downtown core. This significant coordinated action marked Police Chief Katie McLellan’s first major public initiative since assuming her role earlier this year.
Operation Order, part of the broader Safer Calgary campaign, targeted crime and social disorder in key downtown locations such as East Village, Stephen Avenue, and Century Gardens. Officers enforced laws, issued tickets, made arrests, and connected vulnerable residents to support services.

— Grant Robinson, who received a fine for discarding a cigarette butt
Journalists accompanied officers as they patrolled back alleys and transit platforms, documenting the enforcement efforts throughout the day.
Enough is enough.
— Calgary Police Chief Katie McLellan
Calgary police led a wide-reaching operation downtown, making 20 arrests and issuing dozens of tickets while connecting individuals to assistance as part of a new strategy to boost city safety.
