Precious Achiuwa, a versatile NBA forward-center, has joined the Sacramento Kings on a one-year contract, adding crucial depth to a team looking to turn around a slow start. According to reports from ESPN and Reuters, the deal is for the veteran minimum and aims to boost stability following a difficult 2–5 opening stretch.
The Kings have been undermined by frontcourt injuries and inconsistent defense. Achiuwa, 26, offers athleticism, strong defensive instincts, and valuable experience that could energize Sacramento’s lineup. To make room on the roster, the organization released second-year center Isaac Jones, indicating a preference for experienced players over developing prospects.
“Sacramento currently ranks fourth-worst in the NBA for defensive rating, allowing 118.3 points per 100 possessions.”
This signing represents a practical move for a franchise eager to strengthen its defensive identity. Drafted 20th overall by the Miami Heat in 2020 after one season at Memphis, Achiuwa entered the league with solid expectations. Though his Miami stint revealed flashes of potential, his three seasons with the Toronto Raptors established him as a dependable rotation player.
During his 153 games in Toronto, Achiuwa averaged 8.9 points, 6.1 rebounds, and played 21.6 minutes per game—numbers that reflect consistent contribution off the bench. His journey continued when he was traded to the New York Knicks in December 2023 as part of the OG Anunoby trade.
Precious Achiuwa’s one-year signing gives Sacramento a needed defensive lift and veteran presence as the team battles early struggles in the 2025 NBA season.
