The National Transport Authority has been asked to address ongoing transport problems in Clondalkin following concerns raised at a recent community forum. Residents urged for an NTA representative to attend future meetings to tackle the unreliable public transport services.
Councillor Darragh Adelaide emphasized the impact on local residents, explaining that public transport problems are widespread in the area. He noted the frequent cancellations of the 13 bus as a significant issue.
“The 13 coming through Clondalkin was listed as one of the most cancelled buses in Dublin. These are issues that are affecting a lot of people, particularly older people who, if a bus is cancelled, they’re left there waiting in the cold. Same with people with disabilities, people with young kids, but also people trying to get to work.”
On Wednesday, October 15, the 13 bus was cancelled 21 times, representing a cancellation rate of 13%. Most cancellations occurred near the route’s starting point at Grange Castle-Mountjoy Square.
Councillor Eoin Ó Broin mentioned that some buses have skipped stops at Bawnogue, an area under construction. He explained the reason behind it:
“What can happen is that the bus skips Bawnogue in order to get back on track because when they’re late, they get fined by the NTA.”
The unreliable 13 bus service severely affects vulnerable groups and commuters in Clondalkin, prompting calls for urgent intervention from the National Transport Authority.
