The Sacramento Kings have made a roster adjustment following a 2–5 start to the 2025–26 season. According to ESPN's Shams Charania, the team has reportedly reached an agreement with free agent forward Precious Achiuwa.
To clear space for the signing, the Kings waived second-year center Isaac Jones, who was playing under a $1.96 million club option for this season and would have become a restricted free agent next summer, as noted by Spotrac.
ESPN analyst Bobby Marks reported that by releasing Jones, the Kings will incur a $191,043 cap hit. Additionally, $214,151 will be applied to the team’s total salary, impacting their luxury tax calculation.
Prior to the new deal, Sacramento had $3.15 million in tax space. Spotrac data also indicated the team was $7.6 million under the first apron and $19.5 million under the second apron before the transaction.
The Kings have been navigating depth issues in their frontcourt early in the season after forward Keegan Murray suffered a UCL tear in his left thumb. Murray underwent surgery last month and, according to the team, his recovery status will be reevaluated next Monday at the earliest.
Achiuwa, 26, averaged 6.6 points and 5.6 rebounds in 57 games last season with the New York Knicks. His athleticism and defensive versatility are expected to bolster Sacramento’s rotation during Murray’s absence.
“The Sacramento Kings made a tweak to their roster after a 2–5 start, reportedly agreeing to terms with free agent Precious Achiuwa,” Shams Charania reported.
The Kings reshaped their roster by signing Precious Achiuwa, absorbing minor salary cap changes, and seeking frontcourt depth amid Keegan Murray’s injury recovery.
