A group of Cienega High math teachers faced backlash after a Halloween costume photo went viral.
The teachers wore shirts covered in fake blood with the phrase “Problem Solved.”
Turning Point USA claimed the shirts made light of Charlie Kirk’s assassination.
However, the Vail School District stated that the costume was not intended in that way and noted the same shirts were worn by the teachers last Halloween as well.
The district verified the repeated use of the shirts with a photo dated from the prior year.
“We shouldn’t have worn them, and we shouldn’t have posted it in retrospect, and I have deep sympathy and understanding for all people who are victims of violence, including Charlie Kirk and his family,” said John Carruth, the Vail School District Superintendent.
“The fact that this photo was taken so out of context and spread so quickly without doing some simple fact-checking has been really harmful to them,” Carruth added.
According to Carruth, no complaints about the shirts were received from students or parents until the image circulated online.
The school district and the involved teachers have since received threats from across the country.
Summary: Cienega High teachers wore a controversial Halloween costume that was misinterpreted online, leading to widespread backlash and threats despite no initial complaints at the school.
