Liberal Party stalwart Bronwyn Bishop warned that the Coalition is facing a deep internal crisis and that leadership tensions will persist unless the Opposition fully abandons its net-zero stance.
“It is not looking good,” Bishop said, adding that the party would continue tearing itself apart until Sussan Ley could “allow dignity to prevail” by dropping net zero.
The turmoil intensified after Senator Sarah Henderson voiced doubts about Opposition Leader Sussan Ley’s leadership, stating she could not “support the way things are.” Henderson pointed to a troubling Newspoll result showing just 24 percent primary support for the party.
“I can't pretend things are good. We've had a dire Newspoll result, a primary vote of just 24 per cent. Things are not traveling well,” Senator Henderson said.
Despite the criticism, Ley maintained confidence in her team and avoided directly addressing the remarks, emphasizing that she remains “very proud of her team.”
Bishop reiterated that internal disunity would continue for “quite some time” unless major changes occur in party direction and leadership approach.
