Devils Tie Late, Win Against Canadiens in Overtime

Jesper Bratt scored on a breakaway 1:33 into overtime, leading the New Jersey Devils to a 4-3 victory over the Montreal Canadiens at Prudential Center on Thursday. Bratt also contributed an assist, while Jack Hughes added two assists in the win. The Devils improved to 10-4-0 and remain undefeated at home this season (6-0-0). Jacob Markstrom made 16 saves for New Jersey.

“I just tried to read the goalie's movement and felt like I came in with a lot of speed,” Bratt said. “I felt pretty comfortable in that situation to try to make him believe I'd do one thing, and just try to read what the goalie was doing.”

New Jersey First to Reach 10 Wins

The Devils became the first team this season to reach 10 wins. Forward Timo Meier, who scored with 1:07 left in the third period, reflected on the team's goals:

“It's nice to get 10 wins, but we want to keep building our game. We know what we're trying to accomplish on a daily basis to get better and push each other. This game was a good game to learn from.”

Canadiens’ Efforts and Goalkeeper Emotion

Montreal’s Noah Dobson registered two assists, and rookie goalie Jakub Dobes made 24 saves. The Canadiens’ record now stands at 9-3-2. Before this game, Montreal had won all five of their overtime finishes this season. Dobes entered this match with a 1.97 goals-against average and a .930 save percentage in his first six starts.

The 24-year-old rookie goalkeeper expressed emotion in a postgame interview, taking responsibility for the loss.
