Manchester United Teen Overy Called Up to Australia Squad

Manchester United prospect James Overy has earned a call-up to the Australian national team for upcoming friendlies against Colombia and Venezuela. The announcement came as coach Tony Popovic also confirmed the return of midfielders Jackson Irvine and Riley McGree following injuries.

Overy, a 17-year-old full back from Perth, joined Manchester United’s academy last year. While he has yet to make his senior debut for the Premier League club, he was previously named in Australia’s under-20 World Cup squad. The young defender is one of seven uncapped players selected in the 26-man squad released on Friday.

“We’re focused on strengthening our depth ahead of the 2026 World Cup in North America,” said coach Tony Popovic.

New Faces in the Squad

Irvine, who plays in Germany, returns after an eight-month absence due to foot surgery and a quadriceps issue. Australia will face Venezuela in Houston on November 14 and Colombia in New York on November 18.
