Former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown is being extradited to Miami to face attempted murder charges related to a shooting outside a celebrity boxing event in May, authorities confirmed.
Miami Police announced that the 37-year-old Brown was transferred from Dubai to Miami. The U.S. Marshals Service reported he arrived in Newark, New Jersey, on Thursday and was booked into Essex County Jail.
A warrant was issued in June charging Brown with attempted murder with a firearm for a shooting that occurred on May 16 near Northeast 2nd Avenue and 67th Street. An off-duty officer working security at the event witnessed Brown involved in a physical altercation in the parking lot after gunfire broke out.
“He was kind of taunting us, saying, I'm safe here, and that's what we interpreted from those videos, but you know what, he was laughing then, we're getting the last laugh,” said Miami Police spokesperson Officer Michael Vega.
“No matter who you are, what power or what money you have, if you commit a crime in the city of Miami, we're going to identify and locate you and bring you to justice.”
While evading arrest, Brown posted videos from Dubai that seemed to mock authorities, showing confidence that he was beyond reach.
