In Edinburgh, the population is growing rapidly, and housing demand has exceeded supply for several years. Since declaring a Housing Emergency nearly two years ago, the council, along with housing providers and partners, has been working to tackle this crisis within existing frameworks and resources.
Notably, World Homeless Day 2025 coincides with Challenge Poverty Week, highlighting the issue of poverty in Scotland. According to the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, almost 250,000 children in Scotland are experiencing poverty.
