Although Alberta’s official fire season ends this Friday, dry conditions in the province's southern areas have prompted new fire advisories.
The county has declared a moderate fire risk for both the east and west sides of Rocky View County due to dry and windy weather, according to the county website.
“This is definitely a period of season where honestly the weather can change very rapidly,” said Rocky View County Deputy Fire Chief Bill Messner.
Messner reported an uptick in grass fires over the past week, including as many as three in one day, some likely caused by human carelessness such as discarded cigarettes.
“Please use the proper receptacles. Please don't flick them out of the window. That definitely can cause a lot of issues that way,” Messner urged.
There is no set timeline for lifting the advisory; it is expected to remain for at least another week as dry weather continues.
Author's summary: Rocky View County faces elevated fire risks due to persistent dry, windy conditions, prompting advisories and a fire ban while dry weather is expected to continue.
