The New Britain CCARC hosted a lively pickleball event at Club Pickleball in the Meriden Mall last weekend. More than a dozen participants of all ages with special needs joined the morning activities. The club provided the courts and equipment, ensuring a welcoming and supportive environment for everyone involved.
The Center for Community Resources focuses on helping individuals with intellectual and physical disabilities. Located on Slater Road, the nonprofit has been assisting people of all ages for nearly 80 years, offering resources and inclusive events across the area.
The morning was coordinated by Anthony Gionfriddo, director of the Beautiful Lives Project. Participants enthusiastically took to the courts, eager to experience one of the nation’s fastest-growing sports.
“What a fantastic morning as these folks have a chance to be part of this sport, and you can see the energy they all have and can’t wait to get on the courts. This is their time to shine, look at those smiles,” said Gionfriddo.
Adding an extra highlight to the day, Gionfriddo introduced a special guest instructor, Joseph R. Gannascoli—known to fans as Vito from The Sopranos. Gannascoli spent time on the court sharing his expertise and later took part in a meet-and-greet and autograph session with attendees.
The event united CCARC participants, staff, and special guests for an uplifting pickleball experience that celebrated inclusion, energy, and community spirit.
