Blue Jays Manager John Schneider Prefers This Costume Over Last Year’s

John Schneider is not much of a Halloween fan, which isn’t surprising. Instead, the Blue Jays manager was in a much better place this year, spending a Friday at the Rogers Centre with his team on the brink of securing the franchise’s first World Series title in 32 years after an incredible last-to-first season.

“Sitting in my neighbour’s driveway drinking a beer and giving candy,” Schneider said before Game 6 of the World Series. “I think Halloween’s a made-up holiday anyway. It’s kind of my least favourite holiday of the year. So if it’s a chance to hang out in the neighbourhood and have a couple of cold ones and laugh at some costumes, I’m all for it.”

Pointing to his Blue Jays uniform, Schneider added,

“But I like this costume a lot better.”

Though he faced a much more important challenge hours later—helping his team clinch their first World Series title in over three decades—Schneider reflected positively on the journey from last Halloween to this one.

“I always have that positive outlook, sometimes to the point of frustration to myself or people around me,” he said of his belief in a turnaround. “I think you always have to say that could be the possibility. You never know who is going to do what and every postseason game has its twists and turns. I think that we’ve done a good job of understanding that as a team.”

This outlook ties into the spirit of Halloween and the Game 6 matchup of the 121st Fall Classic.
