The Los Angeles Dodgers have made several roster moves ahead of the offseason, designating former All-Star Tony Gonsolin for assignment and waiving outfielder Justin Dean and right-hander Michael Grove.

Player Updates

Tony Gonsolin

Gonsolin, an All-Star in 2022 with a 16-1 record and 2.14 ERA in 24 starts, faced two elbow surgeries since then. He missed the entire 2024 season after Tommy John surgery and returned for seven starts in 2025 before a second elbow surgery in August. This offseason marks his final year of arbitration eligibility.

Justin Dean

Dean, claimed by the San Francisco Giants, remained on the Dodgers’ postseason roster, primarily as a defensive replacement. He batted .289 with 27 stolen bases in 90 games for Triple-A Oklahoma City during the 2025 regular season. He spent six seasons in the Atlanta Braves’ system but never reached the majors.

Michael Grove

Grove, who served as a swingman for the Dodgers with a 7-7 record and 5.48 ERA across parts of three seasons, did not pitch in 2025 due to shoulder surgery in March to repair a torn labrum.

Ryan Ward and Robinson Ortiz

Ward was selected in the eighth round of the 2019 draft and has spent parts of the last three seasons with Oklahoma City. Ortiz, a left-handed pitcher, was also added to the 40-man roster.

"An All-Star in 2022 when he went 16-1 with a 2.14 ERA in 24 starts, Gonsolin underwent Tommy John surgery in 2023 and missed all of the 2024 season."

Author's summary: The Dodgers reshaped their 40-man roster by moving on from injured veterans while adding promising players like Pacific Coast League MVP Ryan Ward to strengthen their offseason lineup.
