On 3 November, Laos and China inaugurated a new cross-border shuttle service linking Boten in Laos with Mohan in China. The opening ceremony gathered representatives from both nations, marking a step forward in regional transportation cooperation.
This new route is the first high-frequency international passenger line between the two countries, aimed at boosting tourism, trade, and business mobility. The initiative enables convenient same-day travel while simplifying cross-border procedures.
“The launch of this service is a significant milestone for Laos-China transport cooperation. It provides our citizens with convenient, same-day access to China and strengthens people-to-people ties,” said Lao Deputy Director of the Department of Transportation Amphaivanh Keopradith.
She emphasized that the shuttle not only benefits travelers but also encourages cross-border commerce and tourism, contributing to wider regional economic integration.
Chinese officials highlighted the line’s importance in enhancing bilateral connectivity, noting that the 16‑kilometre journey takes just 50 minutes while ensuring seamless customs coordination.
The service features several daily trips, flexible border stops, and streamlined customs clearance to reduce delays and remove previous travel obstacles.
The Boten-Mohan shuttle strengthens Laos-China connectivity with quicker travel, smoother border procedures, and new momentum for tourism and trade integration.
