A UK travel vlogger visiting Amritsar experienced a disturbing incident when a local man approached his wife on the street and asked for her phone number while they waited for their Uber. The encounter was recorded and later shared by Alex Wanders on Instagram, sparking widespread attention and prompting police to contact the couple.
In the video, Alex directly challenges the man:
“Why are you asking for her phone number? You approach a random female by herself and ask for her phone number within two seconds; that’s very strange. Yeah, you shouldn’t do that again, ok. You are a bit crazy.”
The man identifies himself as a student and tries to defuse the situation by calling Alex’s wife “sister.” Amina, Alex’s wife, firmly responds, “No number. Bye bye,” after which the man says, “Ok, no problem,” and walks away.
Amina states, “He literally came over to us and asked for my number.” Alex adds his opinion of the man in the video with the text overlay, “Creepy man in India harasses my wife for her phone number.” He later calls the man “an absolute weirdo.”
Alex described the episode on Instagram as:
“Just another ‘normal day’ in India.”
This statement highlights his surprise and concern over such behavior occurring in public.
This incident underscores the discomfort caused by unsolicited advances and the need for respect and safety in public spaces everywhere.
