Los Angeles Dodgers reliever Alex Vesia and his wife Kayla announced the heartbreaking loss of their infant daughter on Friday.
"Our beautiful daughter went to heaven Sunday October 26th. There are no words to describe the pain we’re going through but we hold her in our hearts and cherish every second we had with her."
The couple named their daughter Sterling Sol Vesia. Their social media post included a black-and-white photo showing their hands stacked together with their daughter's.

The couple expressed gratitude to the Dodgers, fans, and medical staff for their support during this difficult time.
"Our baseball family showed up for us and we wouldn’t be able to do this without them. Every person we came across was truly so incredible."
Context of the World Series
The announcement came a week after the Dodgers secured their second consecutive World Series title, defeating the Toronto Blue Jays in seven games.
Before Game 1 of the series, the Dodgers had announced Vesia would miss the games due to a “deeply personal family matter” without further details. In his absence, Dodgers relievers wore Vesia’s No. 51 on their caps, and fans wore his jersey in support. The Blue Jays' relievers also joined in the tribute during Game 6.
