Dodgers reliever Alex Vesia, wife mourn death of baby daughter: ‘No words to describe the pain’

Dodgers Reliever Alex Vesia and Wife Mourn Loss of Baby Daughter

Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Alex Vesia has shared the heartbreaking reason behind his absence from the World Series. The 29-year-old reliever and his wife, Kayla, revealed they are grieving the loss of their infant daughter, Sterling Sol Vesia.

“Our little angel, we love you forever and you’re with us always,” the couple wrote on Instagram. “Our beautiful daughter went to heaven Sunday, October 26th. There are no words to describe the pain we’re going through, but we hold her in our hearts and cherish every second we had with her.”

Vesia had been away from the team since the beginning of the Series due to what the Dodgers described as a "deeply personal family matter." The announcement followed the couple’s April news that they were expecting their first child.

“Thank you to the Dodgers for their understanding and support during this time,” the post continued. “Our baseball family showed up for us, and we wouldn’t be able to do this without them.”
“Thank you Dodger Nation, Blue Jays organization, and all baseball fans for your love and support. We have seen all your messages, comments, and posts — they’ve brought us so much comfort.”

Vesia did not appear in any World Series games after contributing to seven postseason matchups earlier in the playoffs.
