The long-running TV show “Jeopardy!” continues to attract more than five million nightly viewers. A key reason for its lasting success is its host, Ken Jennings, who combines intelligence, humor, and approachability with his strong Pacific Northwest background.
Born in Edmonds, Washington, Jennings spent part of his childhood in South Korea and Singapore before returning to the U.S. He worked as a computer programmer until he decided to audition for “Jeopardy!” more than two decades ago. His record-breaking 74-game winning streak made him the highest-earning contestant in American game show history and a household name.
“Jeopardy!” named Jennings as host following the death of Alex Trebek from pancreatic cancer in 2020.
A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Jennings attended the University of Washington for two years before serving a mission in Spain and later completing his degree at Brigham Young University. His transition from software developer to writer and host reflects his versatile talents.
Jennings recently returned to the Seattle area to present his new puzzle collection, The Complete Kennections: 5,000 Questions in 1,000 Puzzles, at Third Place Books in Lake Forest Park. Fans filled the venue to hear him speak and sign copies of the book, marking his first new trivia release in over ten years.
Author’s Summary: Ken Jennings, the “Jeopardy!” host and UW alumnus, revisits his Seattle roots to promote a new puzzle book that unites his love of trivia, intellect, and connection to the Pacific Northwest.
