Elon Musk, Tesla's CEO, revealed plans that Tesla may need to build a "gigantic chip fab" to produce artificial intelligence (AI) chips. During Tesla’s annual shareholders meeting, Musk hinted at a potential collaboration with Intel for manufacturing these chips.
Tesla is currently designing its fifth-generation AI chip, aimed at advancing its autonomous driving technology. This chip will support Tesla's Full Self-Driving software and other autonomous systems.
“You know, maybe we’ll, we’ll do something with Intel,” Musk said to Tesla shareholders. “We haven’t signed any deal, but it’s probably worth having discussions with Intel.”
On Thursday, Musk secured shareholder approval for a $1 trillion compensation package over the next ten years. This endorsement supports his vision of transforming Tesla into a leader in AI and robotics.
Musk also confirmed ongoing partnerships with Taiwan’s TSMC and South Korea’s Samsung to produce AI chips, alongside the possibility of collaborating with Intel.
>The AI chips power Tesla’s autonomous driving systems, including the Full Self-Driving software.
Currently, Tesla uses its fourth-generation AI chip, with the new AI5 chip expected to enhance its autonomous capabilities further.
Summary: Musk’s vision for Tesla includes expanding AI chip production, potentially partnering with Intel, to reinforce Tesla’s role as a front-runner in autonomous driving and AI technology.
