Franz Wagner scored 27 points and was one of seven Orlando Magic players to finish in double figures as Boston struggled late in the game. The Magic secured a 123–110 win in Friday night’s NBA Cup clash.
Last spring, the Celtics faced the Magic in a tough first-round playoff series. Boston players frequently mentioned Orlando’s physical approach, which made the series a demanding one. Though the Celtics won in five games, it seemed to take a toll, as they later fell to the Knicks in the next round.
Since then, both teams have evolved. Orlando added Desmond Bane to bolster its offense, while Boston has adopted a grittier style, embracing the role of the occasional underdog.
In their latest meeting, the Magic overwhelmed Boston with an exceptionally hot shooting night. Despite overcoming a 16-point early deficit to reclaim the lead early in the fourth quarter, the Celtics faltered late and couldn’t keep pace.
“I didn’t feel like we got out-physicaled,” said Payton Pritchard.
Orlando’s sharpshooting and balanced offense overcame Boston’s late surge, showing how the Magic’s development since last season has shifted the rivalry’s momentum.
