A former nursing assistant, Diamond Johnson, has been indicted for negligent homicide after a patient's death at a nursing home in Baton Rouge.
According to the Louisiana attorney general, the incident occurred in June 2024, when Johnson was using a hydraulic lift to move a female patient from a chair to a bed. The patient slipped out of the lift and landed on its feet, becoming unresponsive about 40 minutes later and unable to be resuscitated.
An autopsy revealed that the patient died from complications due to blunt force injuries caused by the fall, as stated by the attorney general's office.
The indictment was made by a grand jury following an investigation by the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit, led by Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill.
