Since joining the Chicago Bulls just before the trade deadline last season, Kevin Huerter has consistently been a plus/minus leader. Now 27 years old and on his third team in five seasons, he finally feels he has found a home in Chicago.
Despite his strong performance, the Bulls’ long-term plans remain uncertain. Huerter will be a free agent at the end of the season, and with at least six expiring contracts on the roster—including Coby White and Nikola Vucevic—the organization must prioritize business decisions over personal connections.
"I just want to be a part of winning basketball at this point of my career," Huerter said Friday. "Whether fans have liked it or not, Billy has preached that since I got here. Even when that [LaVine] trade happened, he was like, ‘I know who left the building. Are we going to be a team that folds, or are we going to try and make a push to the playoffs, get a little taste of that?’"
Head coach Billy Donovan’s comments suggest the team values Huerter, but the final decision will depend on how the Bulls shape their roster moving forward.
Huerter appreciates the competitive atmosphere since his arrival, emphasizing that the team’s energy has focused on progress rather than setback.
"The energy since I’ve gotten here hasn’t been, ‘Hey, we’re looking to take a step back.’"
For now, Huerter remains committed to helping the Bulls compete and hopes to continue his career in Chicago.
Author’s summary: Kevin Huerter, a key contributor since joining, hopes to stay with the Bulls as they aim for a playoff push amid uncertain contract decisions.
