A fire broke out Friday night, November 7, at the Olympia Place apartment complex in Amherst. Fire Chief Lindsay Stromgren reported the blaze was under control by 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, although parts of the buildings at 47 and 57 Olympia Drive continued to burn.
Due to building instability, fire crews were unable to enter and fought the fire from outside. Demolition teams tore down sections of the structure to allow firefighters to reach burning areas.

Investigations into the fire are underway by the State Fire Marshall’s office, Amherst Fire Department, and Amherst Police Department.
Fire at Olympia Place caused extensive damage, leading to two buildings being declared total losses.
