Canadian actor Mike Smith, best known for portraying Bubbles in the long-running mockumentary series Trailer Park Boys, has been formally charged with sexual assault in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The alleged incident reportedly occurred in December 2017.
According to documents obtained by CBC News, the 53-year-old actor was charged on October 2 in connection to the case. The alleged assault took place in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. A court order prohibits Smith from contacting the alleged victim, whose identity remains confidential under a publication ban.
“We are aware of the allegation concerning Mike Smith dating back to 2017 and take such matters seriously,” stated Trailer Park Boys Inc., the company behind the series and related ventures.
“Out of respect for the legal process, we will not comment further on the case,” the company added, noting that Smith had stepped away from his role as managing director.
