The Georgia Bulldogs football family came together this week as current players and legendary alumni joined forces for a significant charity event supporting former coach Mark Richt's battle with Parkinson’s disease.
Held on Wednesday, the annual Dawg Bowl was a bowling fundraiser benefiting the Isakson Center for Neurological Disease Research. Proceeds from the event will support research into Parkinson’s and Crohn’s diseases.
Coach Mark Richt was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2021 and organized the event to raise both awareness and funds. He expressed deep gratitude for the turnout of former players who showed overwhelming support.
“Every one of the guys I asked said yes,” Richt told DawgsHQ.
Current head coach Kirby Smart allowed his active roster to participate, reinforcing a strong connection between different eras of the Georgia program. Smart previously coached running backs under Richt in 2005 and has preserved many cultural traditions Richt established.
Former running back Tyson Browning highlighted the importance of older players staying involved, praising the program's unity.
Former All-American David Pollack was among many alumni in attendance, emphasizing the lasting bonds within the Bulldog community and the program’s continuity under various leaders.
The Dawg Bowl showcased the lasting unity of the Georgia football community as they rally together to support Mark Richt’s fight against Parkinson’s, bridging generations and strengthening team spirit.
