Classes at Franklin & Marshall College were cancelled on Monday due to a transformer failure that left much of the campus without power over the weekend.
A transformer on Harrisburg Pike malfunctioned on Saturday morning, resulting in scattered power outages across the campus and nearby neighborhoods.
Peter Durantine, director of media relations, explained that repair crews initially expected to restore power by Sunday evening. However, repairs took longer than anticipated, prompting cancellation of Monday’s classes and events.
“We apologize for the continued disruption and the inconvenience this has caused,” Durantine said in a Sunday evening statement.
“Please know that our teams are working around the clock, along with PPL Electric, to complete repairs and restore normal operations as soon as possible.”
Power restoration efforts continued into Monday, and Franklin & Marshall faculty and staff were asked to work remotely instead of coming to campus.
Summary: A transformer failure caused a campus-wide outage at Franklin & Marshall, leading to class cancellations and ongoing repair efforts with remote work advised for staff.
