WASHINGTON, DC – Yesterday, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen appeared on MSNBC’s Deadline: White House with Nicolle Wallace. She sharply criticized President Donald Trump for failing to encourage bipartisan negotiations aimed at protecting Americans’ access to affordable health care and ending the Republican-led government shutdown.
Senator Rosen emphasized the urgent need to extend the Affordable Care Act’s (ACA) enhanced premium tax credits. These credits help keep health care costs manageable for families. She cited a recent analysis by the non-partisan Kaiser Family Foundation highlighting that health care premiums could more than double for hardworking families if these credits expire this year.
In Nevada alone, nearly 95,000 residents benefit directly from these tax credits.
“Donald Trump is in charge of the White House. He’s actually Speaker of the House these days, as he alleges himself, and he’s pretty much in control of the Senate. He could stop this shutdown right now by calling a group of Democrats and Republicans together to work on preserving the accessibility and affordability of health care for tens of millions of Americans who are about to fall off a cliff at the end of this year. Whether you get your health care on the exchanges or through your employer, everybody’s healthcare is going up.”
Senator Rosen called on the President to act immediately to prevent a drastic rise in healthcare costs and to end the shutdown harming millions nationwide.
Senator Rosen urges President Trump to lead bipartisan efforts to extend ACA benefits and end the shutdown, protecting affordable health care for millions of Americans facing looming premium hikes.
