The West Coast Eagles were left to reflect on a disappointing third quarter that allowed the Carlton Blues to take control in their elimination final at Ikon Park. Despite a strong first half, the Eagles conceded six unanswered goals after halftime, suffering a 41-point defeat under wet and difficult conditions.
"I just thought they lifted their physicality and intensity," said coach Daisy Pearce. "For a 15-minute period or so, we just got knocked off the ball a bit too easily. That's finals footy, and it'll be a great lesson for us moving forward."
Pearce commended her players for their efforts in their first finals campaign, emphasizing that the experience would be invaluable as the team prepares for the next season. She noted that the club intends to refine specific aspects of its game plan and focus on building strength and conditioning to improve core fundamentals.
"We just go back to the drawing board, try to narrow in on a couple of things that will give us real impact next year. A good starting point will be more strength and conditioning in our fundamentals. Just more work ahead of us," Pearce explained.
Looking ahead, Pearce reminded her team that setbacks are part of the journey toward future success.
"When you eventually get there and have success, it's these moments that make it more satisfying. You've got to endure losses like today and have experiences like today."
The Eagles struggled in one decisive quarter, but Daisy Pearce remains optimistic, calling the setback a valuable lesson and a foundation for future growth.
