Several parts of the Upper Peninsula are facing power outages Monday afternoon, with Houghton County reporting the highest number of affected customers.
Approximately 20,000 outages were concentrated across Baraga, Houghton, Keweenaw, Marquette, and Ontonagon counties. According to UPPCO, the outages stem from issues with the transmission infrastructure delivering power to their system.
UPPCO is actively working to restore power. They acknowledge ongoing high call volumes and heavy website traffic, which may cause extended wait times and limited website access for customers.
"The outages are related to the transmission infrastructure that delivers electric power to UPPCO's system. Power is actively being restored."
Power has now been restored in most affected areas.
