Ammonia Leak at Factory Prompts Shelter-in-Place Order
A shelter-in-place order was issued for Burlington residents early Monday morning due to an ammonia leak at Scoular Factory.
The Burlington Fire Department responded to a fire alarm at the factory at 11 p.m. and encountered a strong chemical odor upon arrival.
Upon arrival, fire crews encountered a strong chemical odor. Through their investigation, it was determined that there was an ammonia leak inside the facility.
The leak was associated with one of the facility's large industrial refrigeration units. The Burlington Police Department issued a shelter-in-place warning for residents.
