Supercars' season-opening event at the Adelaide 500 has been delayed due to heavy rain and flooding in the city.
The event, scheduled to begin at 12:45pm AEST, has been pushed back to 3:30pm AEST due to the inclement weather.
spite of the delay, the event is expected to still go ahead as scheduled, with the last car on track expected to complete their final laps around 7:15pm AEST.
"We've got a bit of a situation on our hands," Supercars CEO Sean Seamer said in the lead-up to the event.
"We're doing everything we can to get the event underway as soon as possible, but safety is our top priority."
The rain is expected to clear by the time the event is expected to start, but the flooding has already caused significant disruptions to the city.
"We've got a lot of water in the streets, and that's causing a bit of a problem," Seamer said.
"But we're doing everything we can to get the event underway, and we're confident that it will go ahead as scheduled."

The Adelaide 500 is one of the most popular events on the Supercars calendar, attracting thousands of fans from across the country.
The event has been delayed several times in the past due to bad weather, but it's unlikely that the track will be shortened due to the rain.
"We're not planning on shortening the track at this stage," Seamer said.
"We're confident that the track will be safe for the cars and the drivers, and that we can get the event underway as soon as possible."
The Supercars season is expected to be one of the most competitive in years, with several top drivers returning to the series after a year away.
"It's going to be a big year for Supercars," Seamer said.
"We've got a lot of talented drivers returning to the series, and we're expecting some big battles on track."
The Adelaide 500 is being held on a 2.6km street circuit, with the track featuring a mix of fast corners and slow hairpins.
The event is expected to be broadcast live on Network 10, and will be streamed online through the Supercars website and app.
"We're confident that the event will be a huge success, and that we'll have a big crowd on track," Seamer said.
"We're doing everything we can to make sure that the event is a safe and enjoyable experience for all of our fans."
