A coroner's court has found that a fatal accident was 'neither reckless nor irresponsible.'
Larry White, 67, was driving home from a friend's 40th birthday party on January 9 2011 when his car crashed and killed a 55-year-old cyclist.
'The vehicle was traveling at a speed of between 70 to 80mph and in excess of 30mph in a 30mph zone'
However, coroner Peter Harrowing said that White's actions were not reckless or irresponsible.
White, a former police officer, was driving home from a friend's 40th birthday party on January 9 2011 when his car crashed and killed a 55-year-old cyclist.
The court heard that White was driving at speeds of up to 80mph in a 30mph zone when he lost control of his car and collided with the cyclist.
Coroner Harrowing said that the accident was caused by a combination of factors, including the speed at which White was driving, the road conditions and the cyclist's position on the road.
'The vehicle was traveling at a speed of between 70 to 80mph and in excess of 30mph in a 30mph zone'
'There was also a combination of road conditions and a cyclist riding in a position that made it difficult for the driver to see them.'
'The coroner said that White's actions were not reckless or irresponsible, but rather a 'combination of factors' led to the accident.
'I do not believe that Mr. White was driving in a reckless or irresponsible manner.'
'However, he did drive at a speed that was excessive for the conditions and he did not take adequate notice of the road conditions.'
'The cyclist was also in a position that made it difficult for the driver to see them.'
'I believe that this was an accident that was caused by a combination of factors.'
