After committing six penalties during a 3–1 loss to the San Jose Sharks on Sunday night, Boston Bruins head coach Marco Sturm openly expressed his disappointment. The excessive time spent shorthanded disrupted the team’s rhythm and gave the Sharks too many scoring chances.
“We can’t expect to win when we’re always in the penalty box,” Sturm said. “Discipline was the difference tonight.”
He noted that the Bruins played well at even strength but suffered due to repeated infractions. Sturm emphasized that unnecessary penalties reflected poor focus rather than physical play.
The Bruins started strong in the first period but lost momentum after back-to-back penalties late in the second. The Sharks capitalized on two power plays, turning the scoreboard in their favor. Despite several strong saves from Boston’s goaltender, the lack of discipline undermined their effort.
Sturm urged his players to tighten their discipline before the next game, describing it as a crucial element of their identity and competitiveness.
“We need to learn fast,” he added. “Smart teams don’t beat themselves.”
Marco Sturm blamed the Bruins’ loss on poor discipline, stressing that repeated penalties and loss of focus cost the team control of the game.
