The idea for the MVP gimmick in WWE was inspired by an NFL star, according to Andrew Goldstein, a former WWE creative team member.

Goldstein revealed that Dusty Rhodes came up with the concept after being inspired by Terrell Owens, a former NFL player.

MVP was in developmental at the time, with a rudimentary version of his character, before Rhodes helped him create the full body suit and sports-styled presentation.
