Venezuela's government has announced the closure of its embassies in Norway and Australia.
According to the government, the closure is part of a restructuring process, and new embassies will be opened in Burkina Faso and Zimbabwe, described as "two sister nations, strategic allies in the anti-colonial fight and in the resistance against hegemonic pressures."
These new embassies would serve to launch joint projects involving agriculture, energy, education, mining and other common interests.
The decision follows weeks of escalating tensions between Caracas and Washington, with Venezuela calling on the United Nations for support over US military strikes on vessels off its Caribbean coast.
The Security Council has called for de-escalation and dialogue.
