US Surveillance Aircraft Conducts Mission Off Libyan Coast

A US Army reconnaissance aircraft has carried out an extensive surveillance mission over the Mediterranean Sea, focusing on waters off the Libyan coast between Tripoli and Benghazi.

The aircraft, a Bombardier CL-600 ARTEMIS, registered as N159L, departed from Constanța, Romania, and flew through Bulgarian and Greek airspace before beginning its reconnaissance operations.

The plane's distinctive zigzag flight pattern suggested an effort to gather intelligence on regional activity, possibly linked to counterterrorism operations or monitoring maritime routes between North Africa and southern Europe.

The ARTEMIS system is designed to collect and analyze electronic signals (SIGINT/ELINT), providing real-time intelligence to US and NATO command centres, and can track military communications, as well as air and sea movements.
