Two resolutions related to Canada's One Canadian Economy Act did not pass at the Assembly of First Nations gathering in Winnipeg.
Chiefs voted against the resolutions, which dealt with the law that fast-tracks projects deemed in the national interest.
The Act, also known as Bill C-5, was passed in June with only two weeks of debate and no consultation with Indigenous leaders, except AFN National Chief Cindy Woodhouse Nepinak.
The resolutions “manufactured the appearance of First Nations consent to Bill C-5”
Author summary: Resolutions on Canada’s One Canadian Economy Act failed due to concerns over weakening First Nations’ stance.
