A Fort Fairfield home was heavily damaged in a fire on Sunday, but was saved from total ruin thanks to the homeowner's quick call to the fire department.
The owner, who had left the two-story house on Center Limestone Road earlier that day, returned to see smoke coming from the house and promptly called Fort Fairfield Fire Rescue, according to Assistant Chief Danny Gahagan.
The fire is believed to have started from an outside electrical outlet and spread quickly, with crews arriving at 11:45 a.m. to find heavy fire outside and a fallen power line, the department said.
Firefighters from Fort Fairfield, Easton, and Limestone worked together to douse the flames outside and then put out the fire inside, slowing the fire's progress and saving the home from total destruction.
As Assistant Chief Gahagan said, the homeowner's quick call to the fire department was crucial in preventing the fire from causing even more damage.
