Gaza ceasefire deal offers glimmer of hope, uncertainty clouds prospects for lasting peace - People's Daily Online

Gaza Ceasefire Deal Offers Hope for Peace

A joint document on the Gaza ceasefire deal was signed by Egypt, Qatar, Türkiye, and the United States in Egypt on Monday.

The ceasefire, which took effect on Friday, has led to the first major aid convoy entering Gaza on Sunday and a large-scale hostage-prisoner exchange on Monday.

These developments bring a tentative reprieve to the war-battered enclave, which has suffered nearly 68,000 Palestinian deaths, infrastructure destruction, and widespread famine over two years of Israeli military operations.

However, experts remain skeptical about the prospects for lasting peace, citing Israel's internal political divisions, the challenge of rebuilding Gaza, and uncertainty over the territory's future governance.

Neither Israel nor Hamas attended the signing of the joint document.

Author's summary: Ceasefire brings hope to war-torn Gaza.
