A state-record fish was caught by Caleb Bell, certified by Tennessee officials as an Alabama bass, a subspecies of spotted bass considered invasive in Tennessee.
According to the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, the fish weighed 7 pounds 3 ounces, surpassing the previous record by 3 ounces.
“Unfortunately, Alabama Bass are an invasive species that was introduced illegally in Tennessee,”
The record-breaking catch was made at Parksville Reservoir in Polk County, the same location where the previous record was set in 2014.
The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency confirmed the species in a lab and recognized the new state-record bass.
