Heartland Trail's Detroit Lakes Trailhead Nearing Completion
The trailhead for the section of the Heartland Trail running through Detroit Lakes is beginning to take shape.
A Minnesota Department of Transportation grant paid for the bulk of the $500,000 project, with the city's food and beverage tax revenues funding the rest.
"Hough (the general contractor) is making good progress now," said Detroit Lakes City Engineer Jon Pratt.
Construction had been running a little behind schedule, but they now have all of the underground foundation and utilities work done, along with all of the surface concrete improvements and most of the site grading — including the parking lot area.
