Ports Urged to Think Globally, Act Locally

The 20th anniversary of the GreenPort Congress began in Malta with a clear message: think globally, act locally when it comes to sustainability.

Kurt Farrugia, CEO of Transport Malta, welcomed delegates to the Congress. Chairman and moderator Christopher Wooldridge, science coordinator of EcoPorts, emphasized the importance of local knowledge in informing policy, stating:

“no one has your local report like you do and that you need to use this knowledge to inform big picture policy.”

Valletta, the Congress host, is a prime example, having been the first port in the Med to install shore power in its Grand Harbour.
