Activists in the Bay Area held a rally to call for an end to political violence, arguing that it's not about left versus right, but right versus wrong.
They are concerned about the stifling of free speech, particularly during city council meetings, and the rise of hate crimes and threats against public figures.
"There have been death threats against Mayor Barbara Lee of Oakland. And you remember Paul Pelosi, who was attacked by a hammer by individuals who are trying to make a political statement,"
said Edward Escobar with the Coalition for Community Engagement, which organized the rally.
The activists chanted "Stop political violence! Stop political violence!" in front of Hayward City, calling to defend democracy and protect civic spaces.
