Ancient Underground Freezer Unearthed at South Korean Castle
Archaeologists have discovered a 1,400-year-old ice storage chamber at the site of one of South Korea's most historically significant royal castles.
The underground facility, known as a "bingo", is the oldest known facility of its kind and offers an unprecedented look into feudal Korean culture's architectural complexities and advancements.
- Located at the Busosanseong Fortress in South Chungcheong Province, about 90 miles south of Seoul.
- Dates back to the Baekje Kingdom's Sabi period (538–660 CE).
