Presidential Clemency Process Clarified by AGF Fagbemi
The Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi SAN, has issued a clarification on the presidential clemency process.
A press release titled "Presidential Prerogative of Mercy Exercise at Review Stage, Not Final – AGF Fagbemi" was issued by Prince Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, on Thursday.
The clarification came amid public concerns and mixed reactions to the President's exercise of prerogative of mercy, which granted clemency to illegal miners, white-collar convicts, drug offenders, and other inmates.
According to the AGF, relevant authorities will conduct a final review of the list of beneficiaries.
