Bigots like Ron DeSantis should not be platformed by Stanford
Amanda Campos '26 argues why Stanford should not host politicians like Ron DeSantis.
The Hoover Institution will host Governor Ron DeSantis on Friday. As a Florida resident, immigrant, and woman, Campos views DeSantis as a racist, queerphobic, sexist, power-hungry politician.
Campos recounts her experience moving from Brazil to South Florida in 2017, where she witnessed the Trump anti-immigrant rhetoric in full force. She saw DeSantis as another voice in the choir of racism and xenophobia when he came to power in 2019.
He’s a racist with power.
DeSantis signed a state bill prohibiting local governments from passing sanctuary city bills, which would lower crime rates by preventing local police from assisting ICE.
