High Winds Create Fire Danger in Colorado

A Red Flag warning has been issued for most of the Eastern Plains and the Front Range in Colorado due to high winds and low humidity.

The National Weather Service has issued the warning, which is in effect until 6 p.m., as wind gusts are expected to reach up to 60 miles per hour.

The weather conditions are extremely favorable for wildfires to ignite and spread quickly.

According to Russell Dannielson, a meteorologist with the NWS in Boulder, strong wind gusts are expected to continue throughout the afternoon, weakening after sunset.

This is the first Red Flag Warning issued this month, during a stretch of dry weather across eastern Colorado.
