Watkins Museum Exhibit and Guided Tour Honor Black Vaudeville Actor

A new exhibit at the Watkins Museum celebrates the life of George "Nash" Walker, a Lawrence-born actor, writer, and producer.

Walker's story is explored in the recently published biography "The Rediscovery of George 'Nash' Walker" by Daniel Atkinson, who co-curated the exhibit.

Atkinson's book is the first published biography of Walker, who revolutionized Black American theatre in the early 20th century.

Author Daniel Atkinson will be present for the exhibit's opening day.

Walker is credited with helping to change the face of Black American theatre, moving away from caricatures in minstrel shows.

Author's summary: New exhibit honors George "Nash" Walker, a Lawrence-born actor and producer.
